Post-apocalyptic survival game for mobile
Highwater is a free-to-download adventure title for mobile devices developed by Netflix Inc. It's a survival game that is set in a post-apocalyptic world that has been almost entirely submerged in water. In it, players will venture forth toward a rocket that is destined for another planet in hopes of restarting civilization.
Similar to Raft and Hungry Shark World, Highwater features an aquatic theme for its game design and presentation. Players will get to explore the vast oceanic world segregated into different biomes that reflect the disparity in society and the difference in living between the rich and the downtrodden.
A world submerged
The world was struck by a great calamity that left most of Earth submerged in water. You're a resident survivor in the titular region of Highwater between the ravaged War Zone and Alphaville where the well-off live behind walls. There's a rumor of a rocket bound for Mars with a select few aboard. You set out to confirm the rumors and catch a ride if it is.
Experience the game's story-driven gameplay as you set off on a journey through water on a small boat. Steal food to survive the trip and collect all kinds of tools and weapons to help defend yourself against rogue survivors and even sea creatures. Along the way, you will also get to meet and interact with different people. Some will ask for help, while others will join you.
Combat in the game is of the turn-based variety, and you will even come across a few puzzle-solving situations that you need to solve to progress through the story. The experience is complemented by an original soundtrack played through the in-game Pirate Radio station. Just bear in mind that you will need an active Netflix subscription in order to play it.
Endearing survival adventure
All in all, Highwater offers open-world exploration that lets you meet and form bonds with all kinds of characters as you try to survive the harsh realities of a post-apocalyptic land. The enemy encounters and combat is also quite engaging and tactical. Everything is wrapped inside an interesting narrative that unfolds as you grow closer to your destination.
